About Me

Being born and brought up in Salisbury, England means that many of my very earliest memories revolve around Iron Age hillforts, gothic cathedrals and prehistoric sites like Stonehenge and Avebury.

After a decade or so spent in financial services I was able to indulge in my passion of the past and qualified as an archaeologist in 2004. During my training and further studies my specialisms were the Causewayed Enclosures and Henge monuments of the British Neolithic and Early Bronze Age, the categorisation of lithic implements (ie stone tools), geophysics and electronic remote sensing,  and the stylistic regional and temporal variations in prehistoric dwellings across England.

I've worked at various British prehistoric sites ranging from Dorset and Wiltshire, to Caithness in Scotland and have developed a huge respect for the work of our ancestors. Much of this I managed to carry into my recent teaching practice in secondary schools in Dorset and London, introducing young people to a deeper past than they might ordinarily study as part of their humanities curriculum.

Now that I have moved to Brittany, France I am excited to be able to continue my personal studies of the past, drawing links between ancient sites as widespread as Orkney in the far north and Galicia to the south.

Brittany, my new home, was at the heart of a prehistoric culture that spread right along Europe's Atlantic coastlines. I would be delighted to share some of the lesser-known sites with you, pointing out threads that tie together what are sometimes called the "Celtic nations" of Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, Brittany, Asturias and Galicia.

I hope that, should you ever visit Brittany, you will join me in exploring just a few of its amazing sites.

See you soon!
